But before analysing them, we\u2019re going to explain, with the help of a chart, how the data is generated in the automotive sector.<\/h4>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Esquema-informacion-automocion-ENG.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3529\" src=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Esquema-informacion-automocion-ENG.png\" alt=\"Esquema informacion automocion ENG\" width=\"1158\" height=\"339\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<h4>As you can see, when a new vehicle is manufactured, it is assigned a chassis number (VIN) and linked to all the OEM reference numbers of all the parts used in its assembly.<\/h4>\n<h4>The parts supplied by OE part manufacturers have their own manufacturing reference numbers, so there is a correspondence to the OEM reference numbers assembled.<\/h4>\n<h4>Then we have IAM parts manufacturers which also produce alternative parts on the market and generate their own reference numbers.<\/h4>\n<h4>For the aftermarket sector (workshops, dealers, repair centres, wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers and rebuilders) <strong>all this information absolutely has to be accessed to be able to perform repairs and maintenance on all the vehicles in operation<\/strong>.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Automotive-sector-actors-to-DB-ENG.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3530\" src=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Automotive-sector-actors-to-DB-ENG.png\" alt=\"Automotive sector actors to DB ENG\" width=\"899\" height=\"353\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>We would like to point out that for some time now, official organisations have been issuing statements on the need for<strong> all the information to be free and accessible for everyone<\/strong>, but the reality is that <strong>everybody wants to somehow protect their own data while trying to access others\u2019 data at the same time; it\u2019s a game of cat and mouse!<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>In any case, you get the idea: the processing of this whole immense volume of data is complex and presents numerous complexities. This raises the question: <strong>What different types of DBs are available in aftermarket?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4>1) Relations between <strong>license plates<\/strong> and <strong>chassis numbers (VIN)<\/strong>. This DB is generated in each country by the respective official organisations which manage registrations.<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/DB-type-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3507\" src=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/DB-type-1.png\" alt=\"DB type-1\" width=\"400\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>2) Relations between <strong>chassis numbers (VIN)<\/strong> and <strong>OEM reference number<\/strong> assembled. This DB is habitually generated by companies which offer appraisal software and repair estimates and which buy information from vehicle manufacturers.<\/h4>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/DB-type-6-ENG.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3532\" src=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/DB-type-6-ENG.png\" alt=\"DB type-6 ENG\" width=\"431\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<h4>7) <strong>VIN decoders<\/strong>. This is not exactly a DB but rather a decoding algorithm based on the chassis number in order to get data on the associated vehicle (brand, model, type, year, etc.) or link it to a specific vehicle identifier (from a determinate vehicle park definition).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/DB-type-7-ENG.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3533\" src=\"http:\/\/www.factorydata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/DB-type-7-ENG.png\" alt=\"DB type-7 ENG\" width=\"473\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>(*) In database types 5, 6 and 7,<strong> the vehicle park is a simplification of all the different vehicle models on the market<\/strong>, and they are nowhere near as precise as the Type-2 databases which relate the VIN (exact assembled vehicle) with the OEM references.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Every one of these databases has certain main uses or areas of use and <strong>they offer us varying levels of accuracy<\/strong>, but we\u2019ll address this topic in later articles.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Anyway, it\u2019s easy to see how <strong>hard it is to
